With seven forwards, four defenseman and 2 goalies, Nichols dug deep to earn another victory against West Seneca U-18 AAA 4-2. Despite the short numbers, Nichols played an intelligent game to earn the win, managing the ice well and protecting the middle of the rink.
Tom Mediak scored the first goal of the game for Nichols finding the net on a goalmouth scramble while on the power play. West Seneca tied the score five minutes later beating Brandon Mueller on an odd deflection, but Jack O'Connor gave Nichols the lead for good when he converted a Wilson Vershay pass. To add insurance to the lead, Ryan Stayner put one over the glove just 8 seconds later.
The second half of the game was sloppy at times as both teams began to wear down, but Andrew Poturalski finished a beautiful end-to-end rush to put Nichols up 4-1. West Seneca would score with four minutes remaining, but would never threaten the victory. Mueller and Peter Borgesi continued their brilliant play, each giving up one goal in their half of the game.
Nichols will play Amherst U-18AAA at 8:50pm on Thursday night at the Pepsi Center and then will travel to Lakeshore in Rochester to play Monroe U-18AAA at 3:15pm on Sunday. This will be the last two games of the fall season.
YAY - Andrew Poturalski!!!
