The Nichols Fall Development Team played host to the Rochester Americans U-18 and played to a 3-3 tie. Freshman forward Nick Smith scored two goals for Nichols, and added an assist on Cody Selbert's first goal of the fall season. Despite only dressing 16 players (12 of which were either fresman or sophomores), Nichols played a very strong game against a very physical team. Rochester began the scoring, but Smith scored two goals less than 30 seconds apart to give Nichols the lead at the end of the first period. Rochester would score on a power play in the second to tie the score at two to set up an exciting third period. Cody Selbert scored midway through the third period, but a controversial goal allowed Rochester to tie things up. Brandon Mueller and Peter Borgesi split the game to earn the tie.
"I was very proud of the effort from our young guys. Things got very physical early with some big open ice hits, but our younger players didn't back down and showed they could handle the pressure. I was very pleased with our goaltending. Rochester was a good team, and we played well today, " commented Coach Printz.
Nichols will take some time off to practice, and will resume play in October. Check back for schedule updates.
