The Buffalo Saints 18U got started on the right foot with a strong effort in the season opener against a physical Esmark Stars team with a 3-1 victory. After a scoreless first period that saw each team find opportunities,
Alec Yerkovich (Sr/Hamburg) found the back of the net on the power play after a goal mouth scramble.
Matt Gasuik (Jr/South Buffalo) and
Erik Urbank (Jr/Orchard Park) picked up assists on the goal. Esmark wasted no time in it's response scoring less than a minute later.
Brandon Hausler (Jr/Montgomery, TX) tallied the eventual game winner with 3:47 to play off a
Charlie Carlson (Jr/Orchard Park) rebound.
Steve Senese (Jr/Niagara Falls) added an assist. Minutes later
Cole Donhauser (So/Kenmore) found the back of the net to stretch the lead to 3-1 and finish the scoring. Senese picked up another assist on that goal.
Jerry Baerwitz (Sr/Orlando, FL) shut the door making 18 saves on the night.
The same two teams face off at Dann Arena on Sunday, Aug 30 at 12:45pm.
